Visitors can explore ancient archaeological sites at the beaches of Costa Brava, tour Moorish fortresses in Malaga and mingle with the jet set on chic Ibiza. Watch a flamenco performance in Seville and sample paella in Valencia, where the saffron-infused dish is a local specialty. In Barcelona, a departure port for many Mediterranean cruises, visitors marvel at Gaudi's elaborate and eccentric Church of the Holy Family, stroll the narrow lanes of the Gothic Quarter and tour the Picasso Museum. The Guggenheim Museum, featuring top contemporary works, is high on the lists of many cruise passengers who dock in Bilbao.

• Spain is featured on Western Mediterranean cruises. The peak Mediterranean cruise season lasts from late April to October, although a few ships cruise the region year-round.
   
• If you must fly a long distance to reach your port of departure, we suggest that you arrive at the port city at least one or two days in advance of your Spain cruise. This will give you time to rest and get oriented before boarding the ship. Most cruise lines offer pre-cruise hotel packages.
